Alexander Lumber Co. goes back in Taylorville's history to April 1900 when the company opened for business in this community. Company records are vague at to where it was originally located in Taylorville, but it is thought that the lumber yard was at the corner of Washington and Poplar, the location that the company used until the early 1960's.

A Mr. H. Osborne is shown as the Alexander Lumber Co. manager at Taylorville from 1900 to 1931 when he retired.

In 1962 Alexander Lumber Co. purchased property at 1209 North Cheney and built a new lumber yard which it moved into slightly over a year later.

Ron Lock has been the Alexander Lumber Co. manager in Taylorville since 1984
